Competitiveness: Wax-resin ribbons are more advanced formulations compared to wax ribbons, hence slightly higher in cost. However, they remain more economical than resin ribbons, which provide a premium and longer-lasting performance.
Print durability: They offer greater resistance than wax ribbons (enhanced smudge and scratch protection) but less durability than resin ribbons (lower scratch, heat, and solvent resistance).
Print speed: On label materials, wax-resin ribbons can print as quickly as most wax ribbons, and operate at faster speeds than resin ribbons.
Label compatibility: Wax-resin ribbons are compatible with virtually all types of label materials, while wax ribbons have limited suitability for synthetic substrates. Conversely, resin ribbons do not deliver optimal print quality on paper materials.
Printer compatibility: Unlike wax ribbons, wax-resin ribbons are compatible with all Thermal Transfer printers or coders, regardless of printhead technology. For this reason, specific wax-resin ribbons are available for both Flat-head and Near-edge/Corner-edge printers.
